Dr. Philip Glengary passed away peacefully on January 30, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving friends and family. Born on August 12, 1946, Phil lived a life marked by adventure, compassion, and boundless enthusiasm for both learning and laughter.

Phil’s impact on those around him was profound. Through his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering support, he empowered everyone he encountered to feel strong, compassionate, capable, important, and brave. His zest for life was infectious, and his quick wit and sense of humor brightened the lives of all who knew him.

In 1966, Phil married his high school sweetheart, Rasa, in Detroit, beginning a partnership built on love, mutual respect, and shared adventures. With Rasa’s encouragement and support, Phil pursued his passion for knowledge, earning an M.D. from the University of Michigan, where his intellect and dedication shone brightly. Together, they nurtured a beautiful family with Amy, Tina, and Lisa.

For over 40 years, Phil was an anesthesiologist with a deep impact on his partners, the full medical team, his patients, and their families. He dedicated himself to empathetic and quality treatment for everyone under his care.

Outside of his academic pursuits, Phil was an avid outdoorsman who found joy in skiing, wilderness backpacking, world travel, woodworking, scuba diving, golf, waterskiing, and mountaineering. He found success on the squash court where he achieved the distinction of being the Class C Champion of Michigan and the Class D Champion nationally. His adventurous spirit led him to conquer peaks such as Mt. Rainier and Mt. Whitney, embodying the resilience and courage he encouraged in others.

Phil's talents extended beyond academia and the great outdoors. Alongside his brother Ed, he developed and filed a patent in addition to a television show about karate in the 1960s, which aired on Channel 50.

Throughout his life, Phil imparted invaluable wisdom to his family, always encouraging them to embrace bravery and seize every opportunity with courage and determination.

Phil’s legacy will endure through the lives he touched, the lessons he imparted, and the memories he created. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, but his spirit will inspire generations to come.

A celebration of Phil's remarkable life will be held in April — providing an opportunity for friends, family, and loved ones to come together, share cherished memories, and honor his enduring legacy.
