Leadership, Hiring for Optimism and Trust Batteries

This Q&A with Tobi Lütke, Shopify’s CEO had some gems that I agree with and put my twist on:

To become a leader, shift your mindset. The feeling of what’s productive changes radically. Personal contributions are heavily blurred with the team’s output. Focus on the team — helping them learn, become more efficient and be fulfilled.

Hire for optimism. Hearing stories of people’s lives often reveal their approach to tough situations. Do they see options? How do they rally themselves or others?

Trust is built (and lost) over and over again. I LOVE that he put words around a concept that seems so simple—a “trust battery.” You start at 50% power and the battery gets charged or discharged with every interaction.

Also, pretty much all the Corner Office interviews are awesome.
